Hank Zeevat has been making Z Custom Lures on Kauai since 1978 — a local maker with a loyal following whose lures, as island fishermen put it, "really get 'em" in Kauai waters. Visiting anglers gearing up for the island's marlin grounds have long sought him out, and he's known for taking care of customers personally, even delivering fresh lures right down to the boat.

His lures stand out for their colors and detail, built by a fisherman who knows exactly what works in his home waters. Like many of Kauai's makers, his output is local and limited, which makes a Zeevat lure a prized find.

As a museum and archive, we're honored to document Hank Zeevat and Z Custom Lures, a Kauai mainstay since 1978.
