POKAI BAY (WAIANAE), OAHU, HAWAII — ACTIVE YEARS 1960s – LATE 1990s

Victor Humalon made lures out of Pokai Bay on the Waianae coast of Oʻahu, working from the 1960s through the late 1990s — a long run spanning the heart of the handmade era. A west-side fisherman as much as a maker, he ran his boat, the Olga, out of the same waters his lures were built to fish. He has since passed away, and documentation of his work is scarce, which makes a surviving Humalon lure a quiet piece of Waianae history.

As a museum and archive, we're honored to preserve the memory of Victor Humalon of Pokai Bay — a west-side maker and fisherman whose lures deserve to be remembered.
