Created by Ronald Shiroma and now carried forward by Ryan Shiroma, Shiroma Lures holds a near-mythical place in Hawaiian offshore lure history. Ronald Shiroma is widely regarded as the true pioneer of the modern-day ahi bullet — a lure shape and concept that would go on to influence generations of lure makers across Hawaii and beyond. His bullets became so respected for their consistency and fish-catching ability that countless makers would later mold and base their own designs from original Shiroma heads.

Part of the mystique surrounding Shiroma Lures comes from Ronald’s quiet, understated approach to his craft. Just like many makers of the era, Shiroma is usually known to never labeled his lures, this became accepted as fact throughout the trolling community — until the discovery of a single lure with a Shiroma Ticket Stub logo was found inside for which we keep in the physical museum.

Collectors and fishermen have long relied on subtle details to identify authentic Shiroma heads. Common characteristics include the distinctive eye, a rear saddle that is often tapered off toward the back, and visible lathe lines within the saddles themselves — small machining marks that have become telltale signatures of original Shiroma craftsmanship.

A lesser-known piece of Hawaii lure history is the connection between Ronald Shiroma and Sh-Bite founder Ivan, who poured Ronald’s lead for many years. That partnership quietly existed behind the scenes until Ronald eventually stepped away from making lures, adding yet another layer to the interconnected history of Hawaii’s legendary lure builders.

Today, Ryan Shiroma continues the family legacy, preserving the classic lines and fishy characteristics that made Shiroma bullets a staple in Hawaiian trolling spreads for generations.
