Shigeta
OAHU, HAWAII
ACTIVE YEARS 1970'S - 1998
Albert "One Man" Shigeta, Shigeta Lures remain one of Hawaii’s most respected and quietly legendary names in offshore trolling history. Shigeta began making lures in the 1970s, building a reputation through word of mouth and the undeniable fish-catching ability of his heads. Deeply rooted in the Haleiwa fishing community, his lures became cherished by local fishermen who valued proven performance over hype or mass production.
Shigeta’s work carried a certain underground prestige — the kind of lure that those in the know actively searched for and rarely let go of once acquired. Even decades after his passing, many of Hawaii’s top fishermen still run original Shigeta lures in their spreads today, a testament to just how effective and timeless his designs truly were.
Collectors can often identify authentic Shigeta heads by one of their most recognizable characteristics: the solid red, bulbous eye. It remains one of the easiest ways to spot an original Shigeta, although there are other ways to spot one. You can spot the shape of the saddles and the usual bent brass tubing indicative of the era of lure making.
Below, you’ll find our ever-growing digital archive showcasing every lure that has come through our shop.
