Shigeta
WAHIAWA, OAHU, HAWAII — ACTIVE YEARS 1970s – 1998
Albert "One Man" Shigeta was a Hawaiian fisherman and lure maker from Wahiawa, on Oʻahu, who built a quiet but devoted following from the 1970s through the late 1990s. The nickname tells the story — this was a true one-man operation, every lure shaped, poured, and finished by his own hands.
He's best remembered for big, heavy scoop-faced lures dressed in abalone shell slabs — substantial heads built to dig in and track through Hawaiian water. Made in limited numbers and now firmly vintage, genuine Shigeta scoops are sought-after collector pieces.
As a museum and archive, we're honored to preserve the work of Albert "One Man" Shigeta, a true solo craftsman of the Oʻahu tradition.
Notable shapes: Heavy scoops (12"–14") with abalone shell slabs
Identification tips:
- Look for the substantial scoop profile and abalone shell-slab inserts
- A limited, hand-built vintage output — genuine examples are scarce; confirm through provenance
