Sh-Bite

KAILUA, OAHU, HAWAII — ACTIVE YEARS 1995 – PRESENT

Sh-Bite is the work of Ivan Honda, a Kailua, Oʻahu maker who's also one of Hawaii's most respected fishermen — a member of the exclusive "13 Ninjas," a circle regarded as among the very best anglers in the state. He grew up fishing the islands, and after the lures he poured for himself and his friends started outfishing everything else in the spread, he launched Sh-Bite in 1995, straight out of high school.

Three decades on, Sh-Bite lures are a fixture in local offshore spreads, known for precision craftsmanship and consistent fish-raising. Each head is hand-poured, shaped, and fine-tuned on a lathe, with every insert cast from an aluminum lead mold so they come out identical — a discipline that shows in how reliably they run, with a splashy side-to-side action and a strong smoke trail.

That insert work was good enough that Honda became the quiet hand behind another legend's lures: for many years he poured the lead inserts for Ronald Shiroma — the godfather of the modern Hawaiian bullet — right up until Shiroma retired from lure making in 2025.

We're proud to carry Sh-Bite Lures, offering Ivan Honda's precision-handcrafted, fish-proven designs to anglers who value the best of Oʻahu craftsmanship.

Notable shapes: Sh-Bite bullets (plus slants and plungers in the lineup)

Fun Fact: Some of your lures may have been polished by myself or Roy as we sometimes work in his shop and build lures.

Identification tips:

  • "Sh-Bite" branding; inserts cast from aluminum lead molds, so they're notably consistent piece to piece
