Seaducer
HILO, HAWAII — ACTIVE YEARS 1970s – 2019 (now continued by Donniven Polendey)
Seaducer Lures began with a hundred-dollar bet. Out fishing one day, Lou Pacheco's buddy wagered $100 that he couldn't replicate the "magic" lure that was raising all the fish — and two weeks later Lou came back with a copy so perfect his friend couldn't believe it. He collected his $100 and spent the next five decades making lures for a living.
A passionate, prolific craftsman who by his own admission would happily have worked twelve hours a day, seven days a week, Pacheco built his Seaducers from brass tubing, casting resin, and paua shell laminate — forward- and reverse-tapered bullets, rainbow-mirrored and doll-eyed, each finished by hand. Over fifty years of work, his lures earned a loyal following across the islands.
Lou Pacheco has since passed away, but Seaducer Lures live on — the line is now made by Donniven Polendey, keeping Pacheco's proven shapes and reputation in the water.
As a museum and archive, we're honored to preserve the work and legacy of Lou Pacheco, whose Seaducer Lures remain a Hawaiian favorite.
Notable shapes: Forward-tapered 4-hole bullets (9"), reverse/double-tapered bullets (7"), rainbow-mirror and doll-eye finishes
Identification tips:
- Brass-tube-and-resin bullets with paua shell laminate, rainbow-mirror and doll-eye looks
- Genuine pieces by Lou Pacheco vs. newer Seaducers made by Donniven Polendey — provenance helps date them
