Polu Kai
HONOLULU, OAHU, HAWAII — ACTIVE YEARS 1990s – PRESENT
Polu Kai — Hawaiian for "blue sea" — represents traditional Hawaiian lure craftsmanship carried into the modern tournament era. Built by Randy Takushi from a workshop in Honolulu, the lures have been producing tournament-winning fish for over thirty years, each head individually hand-crafted with the kind of attention to balance, finish, and detail that defines the islands' best work.
The hallmark of a Polu Kai is its finish: authentic Paua shell inserts under a flawless, deep hand-polished gloss. Takushi develops and refines his shapes in collaboration with some of Hawaii's leading captains and crews, and the lineup spans the full Hawaiian vocabulary — from the scoop-faced Polu Diver that splashes, dives, and darts, to the stable, all-conditions Caveman, the Polu and Shaka plungers, the Tail Pipe (a flared take on the classic tube), and weighted bullets like the Rocket Man and Mac Nut tuned for ahi and any position in the spread.
As a museum and archive, we're honored to document Polu Kai and Randy Takushi's place among the makers keeping traditional Hawaiian craftsmanship alive.
Notable shapes: Polu Diver (scoop), Polu Plunger, Shaka Plunger, Tail Pipe (tube), Rocket Man (bullet), Mac Nut (bullet), Caveman
