Matsu Lures

MILILANI, OAHU, HAWAII — ACTIVE YEARS 1980s – PRESENT

Matsu Lures is the work of Wayne Matsumoto, a Mililani, Oʻahu maker who's been turning out resin trolling heads since the 1980s (the business itself was formalized in the mid-2000s). Built the traditional way from resin, brass tubing, and lead, each Matsu carries its own signature colors, shapes, and balance.

Matsu is a familiar name on Hawaii tackle-shop shelves, with a range that includes the "Bumbulla" and the well-loved Matsu fish head, in sizes from roughly 7 to 12 inches — proven across marlin, ahi, mahi, and ono. He's also someone we're glad to call a friend at Luremonger — we stay close with Wayne and are always talking story with him.

As a museum and archive, we're honored to document Wayne Matsumoto and Matsu Lures, a long-running Oʻahu maker we're proud to know personally.

Notable shapes: "Bumbulla," the Matsu fish head, plus bullets and slants (≈7"–12")

Identification tips:

  • "Matsu" branding; traditional resin-and-brass-tube heads with signature colors
  • Look for the Bumbulla and the Matsu fish head among the lineup
