Leroy
OAHU, HAWAII — ACTIVE YEARS 1980s – PRESENT
Leroy Low has been making lures on Oʻahu since the 1980s, and his work is a study in color. The Leroy lineup runs through bright, clean finishes — Blueberry, Strawberry, Ice Blue, Pearl Blue, Pearl Purple, Pearl White, Rainbow Mirror — on solid bullet-style heads built to raise marlin, ahi, and the rest of Hawaii's pelagic spread.
A steady presence in island tackle shops, Leroy lures (including the chunky "Shell Stubby") have a loyal local following and remain in production today. Leroy came up in a close circle of Honolulu makers alongside Francis "Franny" Shitabata and Dennis Odagiri — the three were good friends, which is part of why their lures can look so much alike.
As a museum and archive, we're honored to document Leroy Low and Leroy Lures, a colorful mainstay of the Oʻahu scene.
Notable shapes: Bullet-style heads, the "Shell Stubby," in signature colors (Blueberry, Strawberry, Ice Blue, Rainbow Mirror, and the pearls)
Identification tips:
- "Leroy" branding; known for bright pearl and mirror color schemes
- The chunky "Shell Stubby" is a recognizable model
- Shares a family resemblance with Franny and Odagiri's work (the three were close)
Below, you’ll find our ever-growing digital archive showcasing every lure that has come through our shop.
