Leprechaun

HAWAII — ERA TBD

Leprechaun Lures are the work of Stu Dixon, a maker whose thinking about lure design has earned him a place in Hawaiian trolling lore. He's quoted as an authority on how a lure should be run and what makes it work — he talks about "puff," the spray a lure's leading edge throws as water flows around the head, and treats that signature as one of the biggest factors in drawing a strike. It's the mark of a maker who studies his lures in the water, not just on the bench.

As a museum and archive, we're glad to document Stu Dixon and Leprechaun Lures, whose design philosophy is woven into how Hawaii thinks about running a spread. (Swap in your distributor line if you carry the brand.)

Notable shapes: (To be confirmed — heads tuned for strong leading-edge "puff")

Identification tips:

  • "Leprechaun Lures" / Stu (Stuart) Dixon; design centered on the leading-edge spray, or "puff"
  • A maker's-eye approach to action and water flow
  • (First-hand detail is the best reference)
