Kenny Llanes
KAILUA-KONA, HAWAII — ACTIVE YEARS ~1960s – PRESENT
Capt. Kenny Llanes is the patriarch of one of Kona's great fishing dynasties and, today, the most senior captain in Honokōhau Harbor. He's fished Kona waters for more than sixty years and made his own lures for just as long, trolling nothing but his own designs and winning multiple tournaments across the decades.
The Llanes line runs deep. The family's commercial fishing roots reach back to the 1950s; Kenny moved into charter fishing around 1975 with a young Bomboy aboard as crew, and the family tree includes both Bomboy Llanes and Randy Llanes — each documented in this archive. Kenny taught Bomboy not only how to fish but how to build lures and even do taxidermy, passing down a whole craft along with the family name.
His lures carry the "C Pro" branding and the same proven, no-nonsense Kona sensibility he's fished his entire life. Because he fishes his lures far more than he parts with them, original Kenny Llanes pieces are genuinely scarce — and prized by the collectors who manage to find them.
As a museum and archive, we're honored to document the work of Capt. Kenny Llanes, patriarch of one of Kona's enduring fishing families.
Notable shapes: C Pro tubes; Locknutt, bullets and plungers from his personal lineup
Identification tips:
- Look for the "C Pro" branding
- Genuinely scarce — he primarily fishes his own lures rather than selling them
Below, you’ll find our ever-growing digital archive showcasing every lure that has come through our shop. This collection is constantly evolving as new lures arrive, making it a living record of rare, limited-production lures. We will continue updating this database regularly, building what we aim to be the largest digital archive of offshore trolling lures in the world.
