KEGZ

HONOLULU, OAHU, HAWAII — ACTIVE YEARS 2010s – PRESENT

KEGZ is the living continuation of the Joe Yee legacy. Steven Kegley is Joe Yee's grandson, the third generation of the family's lure-making line (Joe → his son Joe Jr. → Steven), and he learned the craft at the master's side — working alongside "Papa Joe" in his basement workshop in the years before Yee's death on August 30, 2024.

Since then, Kegley has carried the torch under a new label, Joe Yee Lures by KEGZ, building lures from the very same original molds his grandfather used and in the same hand-finished tradition. The result is, in effect, an authentic Joe Yee lure made by Yee blood and Yee molds — a way for anglers to own the real lineage rather than a copy or a fake. The lineup is the storied Yee catalog itself: the Super Plunger, Medium Plunger, 501, Apollo, and the Sonny Boy (named for Joe's son Sonny, evolved over the years from a scoop-faced offset-tube design into a slant-nosed head).

As a museum and archive, we're honored to document Steven Kegley and KEGZ, the hands keeping the Joe Yee tradition alive for a new generation.

Notable shapes: The Joe Yee catalog — Super Plunger, Medium Plunger, 501, Apollo, Sonny Boy, and more, from the original molds

Identification tips:

  • Made from Joe Yee's original molds, so shapes match the classics — the "KEGZ" / "Joe Yee Lures by KEGZ" label distinguishes Steven's work from grandfather Joe's originals
  • Same hand-finishing tradition: shell, hand-set eyes, hand-poured resin
