JP Lures are the work of Joe Palacat, a Kona maker — and getting one has never been as simple as buying it. Palacat vets people himself: he decides whether you're worthy of running his lures. If the encounter goes well, his lures go to those who know him and have earned his trust. That makes a genuine JP lure a real treat and a mark of respect, not a purchase.

Palacat's influence also runs through the modern era by way of the maker he mentored, Eric "Koya" Koyanagi. He would later entrust Koya with the original JP molds and the rights to reproduce the line — so JP Lures live on today through the "Koya–JP Lures Series," with Koya faithfully reproducing them: a rare case of a founder's actual molds carrying into a modern shop. Even the forward-set eye placement behind Koya's world-famous Poi Dog is an idea Koya credits directly to Palacat. He is still living today.
