Ian Thomas

OAHU, HAWAII — ERA TBD

Ian Thomas holds an important place in the modern Hawaiian lineage as the mentor of Aloha Lures — the maker who helped bring along Erik "Merlin" Rusnak. He's also credited with originating the "Disco": the bulb set in the middle of the lure with hand-placed mirror slabs, a distinctive look that influenced makers who came after him.

As a museum and archive, we're honored to document Ian Thomas — a mentor's mentor whose "Disco" left a lasting mark on Hawaiian lure design.

Notable shapes: The "Disco" — a center bulb set with hand-placed mirror slabs
