Horace Kurata
OAHU, HAWAII — ACTIVE FROM 1970s
Horace Kurata was an Oʻahu lure maker — and by day a fire captain — who left his mark both on the water and in the workshop. A standout tournament fisherman, he won the Pearl Harbor tournament numerous times. He was making lures from the 1970s, and it was alongside Kurata that Tenny — later of Alpha Bait — learned the craft and built lures before going out on his own. Kurata has since passed away.
As a museum and archive, we're honored to preserve the memory of Horace Kurata — a fire captain, a champion fisherman, and a maker whose hand shaped the next generation through Tenny of Alpha Bait.
