Hawaiian Sea Lures

KAUAʻI, HAWAII — ACTIVE YEARS 1990 – PRESENT

Hawaiian Sea Lures are individually handcrafted on Kauaʻi by John "Bird" Miner, who has been building them since 1990. Miner is well known on Kauaʻi as a master rod wrapper, and that craftsman's eye carries straight into his lures — he's known for beautiful work, including heads built around actual fish heads. His baits are a staple for Kauaʻi charter boats and local fishermen alike.

As a museum and archive, we're honored to document John "Bird" Miner and Hawaiian Sea Lures, a Kauaʻi maker whose craftsmanship is in a class of its own.

Notable shapes: Big-game trolling heads, including lures built with actual fish heads
