Captain Ron

WAIANAE, OAHU, HAWAII — ACTIVE YEARS 1980s – EARLY 2000s

Captain Ron was a Waianae maker best known for the "Disco Diamond" — a lure defined by one of the more distinctive inserts in the islands. He built what's remembered as a "birthday cake" insert: stepped, tiered layers of lead set with mirror, so the finished head threw light back in flashing, faceted layers like a disco ball. Working from the 1980s into the early 2000s, that stepped-lead-and-mirror signature is what sets his lures apart.

As a museum and archive, we're glad to document Captain Ron and the Disco Diamond, a Waianae maker whose stepped-lead mirror insert is unlike anything else in the archive.
